APPLY FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Affordable Housing provides people on low to moderate incomes with an opportunity to rent homes at a rate that is 20-30% below market value rent. This ensures residents can afford basic living costs such as food, clothing, medical care and education. This scheme was developed to encourage low income earners into the rental property market. Affordable Housing homes are not social housing – they are affordable private rental homes.

ELIGIBILITY ASSESSMENT

The first step when considering affordable housing is checking your eligibility. Generally, your income needs to comply with the income limits set by the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS). Your combined income needs to be between $45,221 and $140,064 gross per year effective from May 1, 2023, depending on your household makeup.

It is important to be aware that if your affordable housing application is successful, your eligibility will be reviewed annually. If you’re determined to no longer be eligible for affordable housing, we’ll explain your options which may include moving, private rental assistance and social housing.
